A handy two-piece set designed for dependable fire starting outdoors. The firesteel rod is made from a cerium-based metal alloy and produces strong sparks with temperatures of up to nearly 3000°C when scraped against metal. This makes it great for igniting tinder even in bad weather or damp environments, where matches can fail.
The set includes a metal striker for comfortable, controlled scraping. It can also be used to prepare fine magnesium shavings (when used with a magnesium source/block), which can then be ignited with a spark.
